12th November 2018 Living the Good Life with Thomas Merton with James Cronin
     The Ennismore Retreat Centre, Montenotte, Cork, Ireland . Throughout history, philosophers

     have asked the question: how should we live? In this conversation James Cronin,
     University College Cork, introduces participants to the writings of American Trappist
     Thomas Merton to uncover Merton’s understanding of the good life.

2nd November - 15th November 2018 An Exhibition of Paintings by Robert Wright
     At Whirlow Spirituality Centre, Sheffield.With intense use of colour, in twenty striking abstract

     patterns, Robert explored the solitude and silence of Merton's dark path of contemplation.
     In addition Robert led two workshops reflecting on his own work in conjunction
     with photographs 
by Merton on November 2nd and November 5th. 

22nd September 2018 A Quiet Day on Thomas Merton with Bonnie Thurston
     At St Katharine's House, East London After an introduction to Merton's life and thought,

     we will explore what he meant by 'contemplation'. There will be time and space fo
     silent reflection as well as questions and discussion.

22nd-24th June 2018 Alive to the Splendour: A Weekend with Thomas Merton
     Led by Stephen Dunhill, Canon John McLuckie & Canon Anne Tomlinson  Held at
     The Cathedral of the Isles on The Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde,
     a 10 minute ferry ride from Largs, 35 miles west of Glasgow. 

12th-15th June Thomas Merton: Prophecy and Renewal - A Residential Symposium held at
     Sant'Anselmo, Rome Keynote Speakers: Dr Paul M. Pearson & Michael Casey OCSO
     Fifty years 
after his death, we may well ask: How does Merton’s legacy remain relevant today?

22nd March 2018 Beyond the Shadow and the Disguise: The Spiritual Maturity of
     Thomas Merton  A Study Day led by Fiona Gardner in Salisbury This day will explore aspects
     of Merton's mature spirituality, focusing on his epiphany in front of the Buddhist statues
     at Polonnaruwa a few days before his death. 

2nd December 2017 Thomas Merton - His Life, Work & Witness - a retreat day for Advent
     led by Fr Dan Horan at The Meditatio Centre, London ECD1R 1XX.This day, held
     in conjunction with The World Community for Christian Meditation, included talks, period
     of meditation and a shared act of reflective worship.

17th July 2017. Thomas Merton & Sufism - a lecture exploring the influence of Sufism
     on Merton's thought. A lecture given by Virginia Gray Henry, director of the
     Kentucky-based publisher Fons Vitae, in London. 

9th-11th June 2017. Thomas Merton's Prophetic Practice - A Residential Retreat
     led by Gary Hall. What does it mean to ‘be human in this most inhuman of ages’, to
     ‘transfigure the evil and stricken world’ with ‘words of hope’ This retreat will explore these
     questions of Thomas Merton, and his responses as he continues to speak into the heart
     of our turbulent times, beckoning us into an expansive, visionary political life open to
     unknown futures. Held at Launde Abbey on the borders of Leicestershire and Rutland.  

20th May 2017. True Prayer: True Justice - A Day to Celebrate the Work of the Urban
     Theologian Kenneth Leech This day, convened by the Bishop of Liverpool,
     Rt Rev Paul Bayes, held at Liverpool Hope,University. With Terry Drummond,
     Alison Milbank and George Guiver CR.

14th January 2017. A Quiet Day with Thomas Merton led by Esther de Waal, author and
     patron of the TMS-GBI, held at St Katherine's House, 2 Butcher Row, London E14 8DS.

3rd December 2016. Come Lord Jesus: An Advent Retreat led by Paul Pearson, director
     and archivist of the Thomas Merton Centre in Louisville, Kentucky, held at the United Church,
     Jewry Street, Winchester. The day included reflections on engaging with Merton now,
     a Eucharist (with Philip Derbyshire, CSSM), lunch,and a chance to meet and talk.

29th October 2016. Thomas Merton's Engaged Spirituality A Day Conference and Evening
     Cultural Celebration held at The Sanctuary, Augustine United Church, Edinburgh. Speakers
     & facilitators: Prof Mario I. Aguilar, Sister Ajahn Candasiri, Rev James Crampsey SJ,
     Stephen Dunhill, Dr Jim Griffin, Revd Canon John McLuckie, Fr Willy Slavin &
      Revd Canon Ann Tomlinson.

15th October 2016. Thomas Merton - Contemplative Writer A study day led by
      Stephen Dunhill at the Whirlow Spirituality Centre in Sheffield.

1st October 2016. The Thomas Merton Society Library - A Celebration
     A day of celebration and festivity to welcome the Thomas Merton Society library collection
     to St Michael's Priory, near Milton Keynes, Bucks. with a presentation by Paul Pearson.

     The collection has now found a permanent home! Paul Pearson was secretary of the
     Thomas Merton Society from its inception in 1993 until moving to America, where
     he is director and archivist of the Thomas Merton Centre in Louisville, Kentucky.

8th September 2016. An Evening with Matthew Fox - Thomas Merton: A Celtic Mystic,
     Warrior, Eco-prophet & Martyr for our Times held at Augustine United Church, Edinburgh.

13th December 2015. The Brave Journey of the 'Everyman' - Quaker Influences on the
     Catholic Monk and Peace Activist Thomas Merton. A talk by James G. R. Cronin from
     University College Cork at The Meeting House,
Summerhill South, Cork at 12.30pm. 

5th December 2015. Reflections for Advent with Thomas Merton - An informal day at the
     United Church, Jewry Street, Winchester. It will include a talk by 
Esther de Waal, one of
     the Society's patrons, a Eucharist, lunch and a chance to meet and talk.

14th November 2015. A Study Day co-sponsored by St. Theosevia Centre for Christian
     Spirituality and Pusey House, Oxford. Held at Pusey House, Oxford 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
     Join Esther de Waal, Geoffrey Rowell, Barry Orford, Densil Morgan, Fiona Gardner,
      Charles Miller, David Scott & David Keller who will reflect on the importance and
 of Donald Allchin including his friendship and correspondence with
      Thomas Merton

6th-8th November 2015. Boundless Grandeur - The Christian Vision of Donald Allchin
     Held at Gladstone's Library, Hawarden, Flintshire. Kallistos Ware, Fiona Gardner, Densil
     Morgan, Patrick Thomas and David Keller are among those who will reflect on the
     importance and friendship of Donald Allchin whose legacy embraces the Anglican, Eastern
     Orthodox, and Celtic traditions, and a love of Welsh poetry. Donald Allchin knew Merton,
     meeting with him twice at Gethsemani, and was one of the founders and long-time President
     of the Thomas Merton Society.

24th October 2015. Revolutionary Communion: Chasing Thomas Merton 100 years on
     This gathering, led by Gary Hall, to be held at The Meditatio Centre in West London,
     will explore and celebrate Merton’s ongoing capacity to inspire and guide those seeking a
     sustaining vision for a hopeful common future. 

10th October 2015 A Celebration of Thomas Merton - A day celebrating Thomas Merton's life
 legacy held at St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh as part of their Festival of
     Prayer. The 
keynote speaker is Canon John McLuckie, with workshops led by
      Revd Canon Dr Anne Tomliinson and Stephen Dunhill

1st-10th September 2015. 'My Whole Life is a Search for Truth' - An exhibition of paintings by
     Robert Wright held in The Chapter House of Lincoln Cathedral. The twenty vibrant abstract
     paintings on display, inviting subtle and diverse interpretations, will open an exciting journey
     of faith - both Merton's and the viewer's.

17th-29th July 2015. A Taste of Merton - A series of events held at St Michael's Church,
     Discoed, near Presteigne. Throughout the whole period there is an exhibition exploring
     some of the many facets of the poet-monk through paintings, photographs and text.
     Among those exhibiting are Charles MacCarthy & Robert Wright. There will also be
     original photographs by Merton.

     On Sunday 19th July there will be a service at 7.30pm to celebrate the centenary of the
     birth of Thomas Merton. It will tie in with the exhibition and feature examples of
     Merton's work as well as appropriate readings, prayers and hymns.

     On Saturday 25th July there will be an afternoon of talks starting at 2.30pm. Esther de Waal
     and Michael Woodwood discuss 'Merton and the Arts', Charles MacCarthy will talk about
     Merton and his own paintings on display, and there will be an opportunity to hear
     'Merton in his own voice' in the form of recorded talks.

14th-16th July 2015. Attention to Paradise - A guided retreat with Thomas Merton.
     This retreat is suitable for those who are familiar with Merton, and those who aren't.
     It will led by Gary Hall at Launde Abbey. Further details.

20th Jun 2015. ThomasMerton - Contemplative Writer - A study day, led by Stephen Dunhill,
      at Warmsworth, nr Doncaster.

27th May, 2015. Thomas Merton - Contemplative Artist - A Day Retreat with Esther de Waal.
      During the day, held at Llangasty Retreat House, Brecon, Esther will explore how,
      in Merton's hands, a camera became an instrument of contemplation. Flyer for the event

1st-3rd May, 2015. Thomas Merton in Good Company - A Retreat with his frineds.
     The Well at Willen welcomes those who have been touched by the life, work and writings of
     Thomas Merton. The retreat can be for the whole weekend or for part of the weekend.
     Bursaries are available. Full and part rates to suit individual needs. Further details.

23rd Apr 2015. Contemplative Photography with Merton A study day at Broughton Castle,
     near Banbury, led by Revd Mary Lewis on the theme of The Western Isles,
     Thomas Merton and Your Photography.

25th April 2015. Thomas Merton, Writer & Monk. A study day held at Walpole Hall, Edinburgh.
     The day included talks by Stephen Dunhill & John McLuckie, canon of the cathedral,
     a simple eucharist and lunch. The day ended with a birthday tea.

20th-22nd February, 2015. A Retreat with Thomas Merton led by Michael Woodward held at
     Douai Abbey near Newbury, reflecting on Merton's life, work and wonderful creativity
     in a prayerful monastic setting. Previous experience of Merton welcome but not essential.

31st Jan 2015 A Day of Celebration in London

     11.15am – A Service of Celebration held at Notre Dame de France, London WC2H 7BX
     The service was led by Father Derek Reeve, with the homily given by Metropolitan
     Kallistos Ware, one of the society’s patrons.

     2.30pm – Merton’s Legacy and Our Life of Faith held at St James’ Church, Piccadilly,
     London. The event started with a talk by John Moses, Dean Emeritus of St Paul’s Cathedral,
     with the title ‘Why Merton matters’. This was followed by a panel discussion led by
      Revd Lucy Winkett. On the panel was John Moses, Esther de Waal, Fiona Gardner
     & Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. The afternoon ended with a birthday tea - including cake!

31st Jan 2015 A Merton Gathering in Glasgow at St Simon's Church, Partick, Glasgow.
     The mass was taken by Fr Willy Slavin. Afterwards we repaired to a local hostelry for food,
     fellowship & sharing.
